Why I Added a 50FT Vacuum Hose Reel to My Detailing Van — And Why I’d Never Go Back

Why I Added a 50FT Vacuum Hose Reel to My Detailing Van — And Why I’d Never Go Back

When most people think about upgrading a detailing setup, they usually think about bigger pressure washers, better polishers, or expensive chemicals.

But honestly? One of the best upgrades I’ve made to my mobile detailing setup was adding a vacuum hose reel to the van.

I recently installed a 50-foot vacuum hose reel setup using the COXREELS V-117H-850 Vacuum Hose Reel, and it has completely changed the workflow for my mobile detailing business.

At first, I wondered if 50 feet would be overkill.

Turns out — it’s perfect.

Why a 50FT Vacuum Hose Works So Well

With the reel mounted in the van, I can now walk around almost any vehicle without ever moving the vacuum itself.

That means:

  • Faster setup

  • Faster teardown

  • Less dragging equipment around

  • Cleaner workflow

  • Less frustration during long details

It also makes the whole operation look far more professional to customers.

Clients notice things like this immediately.

Instead of unloading a vacuum and fighting with hoses every job, I simply pull the hose out, vacuum the vehicle, crank it back in, and move on.

It looks organized, efficient, and professional — because it is.

The Unexpected Benefit: Customer Perception

One thing I didn’t expect was how much customers would react to the setup itself.

The reel wall, organized hoses, mounted equipment, and quick workflow make the van feel more like a professional service vehicle instead of just a personal van full of supplies.

People naturally associate organized equipment with higher quality work.

Even before I start cleaning, customers already feel confident in the service.

That matters more than most detailers realize.

I Did Have to Upgrade My Vacuum

There’s one thing detailers should understand before running a 50-foot vacuum hose setup:

Long hoses reduce airflow.

Once you start running 40–50 feet of hose, weaker vacuums can struggle with:

  • Sand

  • Salt

  • Pet hair

  • Heavy debris

After installing the reel, I ended up upgrading my vacuum setup and adding a dust separator/debris remover to maintain suction performance.

That combination made a huge difference.

Now I get:

  • Better suction consistency

  • Less filter clogging

  • Better airflow

  • Improved performance on heavily soiled interiors

For anyone considering a long hose setup, I’d strongly recommend planning for both:

  1. A strong vacuum

  2. A proper debris separator

Small Efficiency Gains Add Up Fast

This is one of those upgrades that saves small amounts of time on every single detail.

Maybe it only saves:

  • 5 minutes here

  • 10 minutes there

  • A little physical effort each job

But over hundreds of details per year, those small improvements become massive.

Mobile detailing is all about workflow efficiency.

The less energy you waste moving equipment around, untangling hoses, and fighting your setup, the more energy you can put into actual detailing quality.

My Overall Thoughts

Adding a vacuum hose reel was 100% worth it for my detailing business.

It improved:

  • Speed

  • Professional appearance

  • Workflow efficiency

  • Customer perception

  • Daily comfort during jobs

Sometimes the best upgrades aren’t flashy.

Sometimes they’re the upgrades that make your business run smoother every single day.

And for me, this was one of them.
